Han var son till Manne Siegbahn, bror till Bo Siegbahn och far till Per Siegbahn, Hans Siegbahn och Nils Siegbahn. Kai Siegbahn is mainly known to the afterworld for his development of spectroscopies which have provided a detailed understanding of the electronic structure of atoms, molecules and condensed matter. Swedish physicist Kai M. Siegbahn developed techniques for chemical analysis using high-resolution electron spectroscopy, which he called electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA), and which are now generally termed x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Karl Manne Georg Siegbahn FRS (For) H FRSE (3 December 1886 – 26 September 1978) was a Swedish physicist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1924 "for his discoveries and research in the field of X-ray spectroscopy ".
